I replace whenever I get a hole that is big enough to feel airy with no pants on or when there's a brown streak down the middle. This can be anywhere from two weeks to a year depending on what I've eaten and how well my toilet paper supply hold up. Ha ha ha, just kidding. Really, how do you answer a question like this?

What's the most thought-provoking novel you've ever read?
by lucky ini'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.
even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

Atlas Shrugged was good, but I felt it wasn't entirely fair or accurate. Thought provoking--yes. Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis is a good, thought provoking read.

What would be on your 1.00 per day menu, and could you do it?
by SixofNine in.
imagine that you're givin the opportunity to win a substantial prize (say, 5000 dollars and a make-out session with angelina jolie or sam shepherd) if you can a) live for 60 days on one dollar per day, and b) retain your health better than other contestants.. ah, screw that, that's silly.
what would be your menu if you had to live on one dollar per day, and you could not accept free food?

How much preparation time is allowed? $1.00 per day will buy just about any kind of garden seed you want. Also, it will buy a lot of .22 ammunition. Lots of stuff to eat in the woods. . .

Hey old friends, can you help me with Poetry?
by Sirona ini'm doing a literature course right now with the open university.
its a level 2 course, and since i haven't studied literature since i was 16 i am struggling with the poetry bit.
i have analyse the following poem, and comment on things like rhythm, metaphor, simile, alliteration, metre, tone, etc.

The rime is all masculine excepting one couplet. "Thy mane fair floating to the winds of heaven." Take this line, you can comment on the alliteration of "flair floating" and the assonance of the a and i sounds. Notice also the lines where the iambic pentameter is changed--that's a place where he's adding extra stress. These are just some ideas on what to look for--if I get too detailed you won't learn anything. :-)

Use of the word jah?
by carla ini have noticed on ex sites the use of the word jah in reference to jehovah.
is this just a slang used by ex's or do active also use it?
if active members use it, doesn't it seem a bit disrespectful then?

I remember a song, something like "Praise Jah with me, our lord and king. Blah, blah blah blah blahhhh bla blah bla bla blahHHHHH." :-)

Does the Bible interpret itself, or a fiddle you can play any tune with?
by Rod P intesting this thread.
well, after three times, it finally worked.
why are there so many religions all professing belief in the bible, yet all of them interpret the bible differently?

If you notice, the hallmark of any long-lasting religeous text is ambiguity. How long would a religeon last that is explicit and detailed? The book has to be ambiguous so people can apply it how they see fit and feel like they're being righteous.
Which has more romantic/spiritual appeal? "The Lord works in mysterious ways." Or, "God lives in x location and wants to do x and x and x to the universe. If you do x, you will be jailed. If you do x, you will be favored." So on and so on.
Notice also that most religeons claim that true understanding is only imparted to "believers." So, when inconsistencies are shown, they just say you don't understand because God hasn't allowed you to understand. Sickening really.

Attention all you wacky evolutionists!
by AlmostAtheist inevolution versus creation has been beat to death lately, this isn't another debate thread.
i wanted to showcase a hugely funny site i found when researching creationists' views.
note that i don't believe this site in any way depicts the beliefs of most creationists.

Guys, I think that page has got to be a joke. Come on, no one can seriosly argue that evolutionists' theory required half an eye????
